Milan Design Week

Hello and welcome fellow design lovers! In this blog we hope to give you insight and access to information on all things design including Interiors, Styling, Art, Travel and Culture and let’s not forget lots and lots of beautiful images. We are visual people at the end of the day! Kicking off our first story with none other than Salone Milano.

It’s Milan Design week and Salone Del Mobile is one of the biggest Design events held in April each year. Over 400,000 people from around the world will attend to discover the latest in interior trends.  Primarily there’s a strong focus on furniture and lighting but there are also many other sub categories and events held throughout the week which are sprawled across the cultural rich city. Design houses from around the globe participate and there truly are some of the most amazing stands showcasing their latest designs. It is a creative cross-pollination of furniture, lighting, textiles, home décor and product designs of every scale.

This year Fornasetti will present its latest creations at their Store on Corso Venezia in Milan. A mixture of classical, contemporary and timeless themes give life to eleven hand tufted carpets made of silk and New Zealand wool. The new collection is made according to the ancient production techniques of Tai Ping, a historical atelier that has been creating precious carpets using the age-old method of hand tufting since 1956. Artistic director Barnaba Fornasetti says the collection expresses “colours and geometries and that encyclopaedic variety that characterises the Fornasetti visual language.”

They will also be hosting an artist’s showcase at their Corso Matteotti store in Milan exclusively for Milan Art week, which will run for the same duration of Milan Design Week. The artist Carlo Dell’Acqua’s installation “S/oggetti parziali” uses the face of Lina Cavalieri. The mesmerizing installation is a manipulation of the famous Themes and Variation’s face which can be viewed until April 14, 2019
